Kids are often pretty good at being consumers. If you’re a parent with a small business, you have the opportunity to show your kids firsthand what it means to be a producer. Small Business Saturday, which takes place on Nov. 30 this year, may be a great time to do just that. Small Business Saturday was established by American Express in 2010 and encourages consumers to patronize their local stores as a way to keep dollars circulating within their community. Here are three reasons you should consider getting your kids involved in Small Business Saturday, according to two mompreneurs. Ronne Brown is the owner of HERLISTIC, a plant-derived beauty and feminine care brand in Washington, D.C. She’s been participating in Small Business Saturday since she established her business in 2020. The entrepreneur gets her kids (ages 24, 18 and 12), plus her bonus daughter, 10, to help out on Small Business Saturday and beyond. Brown’s kids help with customer service, shipping and fulfillment tasks. That could include counting inventory, quality control or packaging boxes. Other times, help looks like Brown’s 12-year-old daughter keeping her up-to-date with TikTok trends and influencers in the beauty field. “I just want them to understand the price and the value of a dollar and what it actually costs to make it,” Brown says. The mompreneur also hopes her kids learn the benefits of commitment and hard work. “What I want to show them is that you have to work hard every day. And there are gonna be moments where you’re gonna be tired, you’re gonna be exhausted, and you’re not gonna want to do things, and you’re going to have to push through,” she says. Hiring your kids to do legitimate work during Small Business Saturday provides a chance for them to learn pillars needed for a strong financial foundation: earning money , saving money and investing. That said, before hiring kids, it’s critical to understand the child labor laws for your state in addition to the IRS’ rules around hiring kids. Brown says she pays all of her children, including her 24-year-old son who is on payroll. Additionally, she teaches them about investing in the stock market. “I want them to understand the importance of making money, but also investing the money that they’re making,” she says. “Because when I pay them, I always ask them, ‘so what are you gonna do to double this money?’” If you hire your minor kids, they could get a headstart on investing by putting some of their income into a custodial Roth IRA , which requires earned income to open. You could also open them a custodial brokerage account. Another perk of your kids earning income by working for you is that they may be exempt from paying federal income taxes if they earn less than the standard deduction . In 2024, that threshold is $14,600. Having your kids add helping hands, whether it be doing administrative tasks or helping customers, can ensure you keep up with a potential increase in sales. A 2024 NerdWallet holiday spending report found that 16% of 2024 holiday shoppers plan to shop on Small Business Saturday this year. Lisset Tresvant, owner of Glow Esthetics Spa in Hollywood, Florida, has been participating in Small Business Saturday since the genesis of her business in 2019. “I do tend to sell more because people are usually more inclined to purchase because of the sales, and it gives them a reason to support us,” she says. To help with the demand, Tresvant’s daughter, 12, and son, 9, fill her skincare products, add labels and help prep items for shipping. Tresvant says she decided to let her kids get involved in her business so they have a better understanding of what she does. Looking beyond Small Business Saturday, hiring your child can also help with succession planning , which is about planning for your departure from your business. Tresvant hopes to pass hers down to her kids one day. “They understand that I’m building this legacy just for not myself, but for them as well,” says Tresvant. The article 3 Reasons to Involve Your Kids in Small Business Saturday originally appeared on NerdWallet .The Bank of Scotland’s business barometer poll showed 73% of Scottish businesses expect to see turnover increase in 2025, up from 60% polled in 2023. Almost a quarter (23%) of businesses expect to see their revenue rise by between six and 10% over the next 12 months, with just over a fifth (21%) expecting it to grow by even more. The poll found that 70% of businesses were confident they would become more profitable in 2025, a two per cent increase when compared with the previous year. Revenue and profitability growth was firms’ top priority at 52%, though 40% said they will be targeting improved productivity, and the same proportion said they will be aiming to enhance their technology – such as automation or AI – or upskill their staff (both 29%). More than one in five (22%) want to improve their environmental sustainability. Other areas businesses are hoping to build upon AI-assisted technology (19%), and 24% will be investing in expanding into new UK markets and 23% plan to invest in staff training. The business barometer has surveyed 1,200 businesses every month since 2002, providing early signals about UK economic trends. Martyn Kendrick, Scotland director at Bank of Scotland commercial banking, said: “Scottish businesses are looking ahead to 2025 with stronger growth expectations, and setting out clear plans to drive this expansion through investments in new technology, new markets and their own teams. “As we enter the new year, we’ll continue to by their side to help them pursue their ambitions and seize all opportunities that lie ahead.”

Pep Guardiola’s side at least avoided the indignity of a sixth successive defeat in all competitions but alarm bells continue to ring at the Etihad Stadium after a dramatic late capitulation. A double from Erling Haaland – the first from the penalty spot – and a deflected effort from Ilkay Gundogan, all in the space of nine minutes either side of the break, looked to have ensured a return to winning ways. Yet Guardiola was left with his head in hands as Feyenoord roared back in the last 15 minutes with goals from Anis Hadj Moussa, Sergio Gimenez and David Hancko, two of them after Josko Gvardiol errors. City almost snatched a late winner when Jack Grealish hit the woodwork but there was no masking another dispiriting result. It was hardly the preparation City wanted for Sunday’s crunch trip to Liverpool, and the Feyenoord fans took great delight in rubbing that fact in. They sung the club anthem they share with Liverpool, You’ll Never Walk Alone, and chanted the name of their former manager Arne Slot, the current Reds boss. Guardiola arrived at the ground with a cut on the bridge of his nose and, once again, his side have been struck a nasty blow. Despite not being at their best, they had dominated early on against what seemed limited Dutch opposition. They threatened when a Gundogan shot was deflected wide and Haaland then went close to opening the scoring when he turned a header onto the post. Feyenoord goalkeeper Timon Wellenreuther gifted City another chance when he passed straight to Bernardo Silva but Grealish’s fierce volley struck team-mate Phil Foden. Foden forced a save from Wellenreuther but City had a moment of alarm when Igor Paixao got behind the defence only to shoot tamely at Ederson. Nathan Ake missed the target with a header but some luck finally went City’s way just before the break when Quinten Timber, brother of Arsenal’s Jurrien, was harshly adjudged to have fouled Haaland. The Norwegian rammed home the resulting spot-kick and City returned re-energised for the second period. They won a corner when a Matheus Nunes shot was turned behind and Gundogan fired the hosts’ second – albeit with aid of a deflection – with a firm volley from the edge of the box. City turned up the heat and claimed their third soon after as Gundogan released Nunes with a long ball and his low cross was turned into the net by a sliding Haaland. 44' ⚽️ Man City 1-0 Feyenoord50' ⚽️ Man City 2-0 Feyenoord53' ⚽️ Man City 3-0 Feyenoord75' ⚽️ Man City 3-1 Feyenoord82' ⚽️ Man City 3-2 Feyenoord89' ⚽️ Man City 3-3 Feyenoord 🤯🤯🤯 #UCL — UEFA Champions League (@ChampionsLeague) November 26, 2024 It seemed City were heading for a morale-lifting victory but a couple of Gvardiol errors changed the script. The Croatian, who had a torrid time in Saturday’s 4-0 thrashing by Tottenham, first horribly misplaced a backpass and allowed Moussa to nip in and round Ederson. Ordinarily that 75th-minute reply would have been a mere consolation and City would close out the game, but Gvardiol had another moment to forget eight minutes from time. Again he gave the ball away and Feyenoord pounced. The ball was lofted into the box and Jordan Lotomba fired a shot that glanced the post and deflected across goal, where Gimenez chested in. Ederson then blundered as he raced out of his area and was beaten by Paixao, who crossed for Hancko to head into an empty net. Amid some moments of unrest in the crowd, when objects were thrown, City tried to rally in stoppage time. Grealish had an effort deflected onto the bar but the hosts had to settle for a draw.

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (AP) — The Miami Dolphins were ready to deal veteran defensive tackle Calais Campbell to the Baltimore Ravens ahead of the Nov. 5 trade deadline until Mike McDaniel stepped in. “I may or may not have thrown an adult temper tantrum,” Miami's coach said, confirming the news first reported by NFL Network Sunday morning. The Dolphins were 2-6 and had lost three straight at that point. They'd played four uninspired games without their starting quarterback, going 1-3 after Tua Tagovailoa on Sept. 17 with a concussion. Campbell would have had a chance to rejoin the contending Ravens, and Miami would have received a 2026 fifth-round pick in return, NFL Network reported. McDaniel argued that Campbell was too valuable to lose. “I was happy that they brought me into the conversations," Campbell said after Miami's . “They didn't have to say anything to me at all. We had a really good conversation about what we think about this team, where we are. We felt like we had a good shot to get back into the fight.” Added McDaniel: “I think it wasn’t like it was (GM) Chris (Grier) versus me. ... That’s the tricky thing about Chris’ job is he has to look long-term and short-term at the same time, what’s the best for the organization.” Campbell, a 17-year veteran, signed with the Dolphins after playing for Atlanta last season. Players and coaches have praised the 38-year-old's contributions on the field and in the locker room. “There’s no one’s game I’ve come to respect more than Calais up front on the D-line,” defensive tackle Zach Sieler said, “being with him this year and just the energy, the attitude and the mindset he brings every week. It can’t be matched, and that’s the reason why he is who he is today and doing what he’s doing at 17 years.” Campbell leads the team with four sacks. With back-to-back sacks in Weeks 10 and 11, he became the eighth player 38 or older to record sacks in consecutive games since the 1970 merger. He also has nine tackles for loss, giving him at least five tackles for loss in 15 of his 17 seasons. He played for Baltimore from 2020-2022, totaling 11 sacks and 113 tackles. “I think he means a great deal to not only the defensive line room, but the entire defense as well as the entire team,” McDaniel said earlier this week. “It’s rare for a guy to get here when he did, and then be voted, with such conviction, captain. I think the way that he operates to be a pro, I think has had a substantial impact on a lot of players that hadn’t been fortunate enough to be around someone with sustained success like he’s had.” The Dolphins have won three straight games since the deadline. Miami's defense held the Patriots scoreless until the fourth quarter on Sunday. Campbell broke down the team's pregame huddle as he has done before most games this season. He was also seen coaching up rookie linebacker Chop Robinson, who is always seeking pointers from the six-time Pro Bowler. “My job is to speak on behalf of what’s the best thing for the 2024 Dolphins,” McDaniel said. “I’m just fortunate to work in an organization where myself and the GM can be transparent and work together. “And he didn’t want to see any more adult temper tantrums.” AP NFL:

Chiefs WR could return vs. Steelers insider of CBS has reported that wide receiver could potentially return to action for the Chiefs' highly anticipated Christmas Day game against the in Week 17. The 27-year-old speedster, who underwent surgery to repair a sternoclavicular joint injury sustained during the preseason, has been on injured reserve since late summer. While there was initial hope could return earlier in the season, setbacks pushed his timeline back. However, Chiefs head coach recently offered optimism regarding Brown's recovery. "Making very good progress," Reid said when asked about Brown's status. Adding to the speculation, posted a cryptic clock emoji on social media, hinting that his return may be imminent. Fans have taken the post as a sign that he could be gearing up to join the Chiefs' lineup before the postseason. Brown's potential return would be a game-changer for Kansas City's offense, which has struggled to find consistency this season. With sidelined for the year, Brown's experience as a 1,000-yard receiver could provide quarterback with a much-needed downfield threat. Pairing Brown with DeAndre Hopkins and Travis Kelce could create a formidable trio, making the Chiefs' passing attack more dynamic and difficult for defenses to handle. The Chiefs are also expected to welcome back running back Isiah Pacheco and defensive end Charles Omenihu for their matchup against the on Black Friday. Pacheco has been sidelined since Week 2 with a fractured fibula, while Omenihu has been recovering from an ACL injury sustained in last season's . As the playoff race tightens, the potential return of key players like , and couldn't come at a better time for the Chiefs. While nothing is set in stone regarding return, his presence could provide a much-needed spark for Kansas City's push toward another Super Bowl run.

Some might perceive frugality as a deprivation of life’s pleasures, while others see managing expenses as mere financial juggling without purpose. However, in my experience, frugality and expense management are two sides of the same coin. It is not about choosing one over the other but about finding the sweet spot that allows you to live a rich, fulfilling life without compromising your financial goals. In this article, I will share insights from my own journey as a financial coach, mentor, and Certified Financial Planner. I will also delve into the lessons learned from working with diverse clients—from young married couples to retired professionals and single mothers. Together, we will explore how to strike a balance between frugality and expenses in an Indian context, transforming both concepts into powerful tools for achieving financial freedom and happiness. Understanding Frugality: The Misconceptions When I was growing up, the concept of frugality was often misunderstood. In our middle-class household, frugality was equated with being “cheap.” If you were frugal, it meant you did not spend money on what was considered “non-essential.” However, over the years, I have understood that frugality is not about sacrificing joy or comfort but about spending wisely. Frugality, in its true essence, is about value-based spending. It involves prioritising expenditures that align with your core values and financial goals. It is about making mindful decisions with your money. Instead of simply cutting costs, frugality encourages you to evaluate your expenses, focus on the essentials, and eliminate wasteful spending. My Experience with Frugality I still remember the early days of my career when I transitioned from working with insurance to comprehensive financial planning. At that time, frugality was my ally. I had to invest in my education and certifications, which required a significant amount of money. Instead of feeling restricted, I made conscious choices to reduce my lifestyle expenses to accommodate these investments in my future. I chose to drive a modest car instead of a luxury one, refrained from dining out frequently and stuck to a strict monthly budget. These choices were difficult, especially when I saw my peers indulging in lavish lifestyles. However, I understood that my spending had to align with my long-term financial goals, such as expanding my business, Advantage Financial Planners LLP, and establishing The Richness Academy. Frugality was about channelling my resources towards what truly mattered—my professional growth and future financial security. Defining Expenses: Necessary, Discretionary, and the Grey Area On the flip side, expenses are often seen as unavoidable costs of living. However, not all expenses are created equal. In my consultations with clients, I often categorise expenses into three types: necessary, discretionary, and the “grey area.” Balancing Frugality and Expenses: Key Strategies Achieving financial freedom requires a balanced approach to managing expenses and embracing frugality without feeling deprived. Here are some strategies that have helped me, and many of my clients, navigate this balance: The Indian Context: Frugality vs. Expenses In India, cultural values often emphasise savings, but modern consumerism has introduced new spending habits. Young professionals, married couples, and even retired individuals often find themselves caught between traditional wisdom and contemporary lifestyles. For instance, many people struggle with societal pressures to maintain a certain lifestyle—whether it is attending lavish weddings or investing in gold jewellery. One of my clients, a single mother, felt compelled to spend on social obligations, even when it strained her finances. Through our coaching sessions, we re-evaluated her spending habits, helping her focus on saving for her daughter’s future rather than succumbing to external pressures. This decision not only brought financial stability but also a sense of empowerment. Anecdote: A Lesson from My Own Journey A few years ago, I faced a dilemma between spending on a luxury car and investing in a new venture—The Richness Academy. I had always dreamed of owning that car, but deep down, I knew that the car would not add long-term value to my life. It would only satisfy a momentary desire. So, I chose to invest in the venture instead. Looking back, it was one of the best decisions I made. The academy has now grown into a thriving community of individuals seeking financial freedom and happiness. The True Essence of Frugality and Expenses Frugality is not about living a deprived life; managing expenses is not about penny-pinching. It is about aligning your spending with your core values, aspirations, and long-term goals. It is about understanding that every rupee spent today impacts your future financial health. It is about making choices that enable you to enjoy life’s pleasures without sacrificing your financial security. I always emphasise this balance as I continue to guide my clients—senior professionals, entrepreneurs, young married couples, single mothers, and retirees. It’s not about choosing between frugality and expenses; it’s about finding the right mix that suits your unique circumstances and helps you lead a rich and fulfilling life. Final Thoughts: Your Path to Financial Freedom Frugality and expense management are tools that can help you build a bridge to financial freedom. When used wisely, they can lead to a life that is both abundant and joyful. Remember, every financial decision you make today—big or small—profoundly impacts your journey towards achieving your financial dreams. So, the next time you find yourself debating whether to splurge on that latest gadget or save for a future goal, ask yourself: Will this expense bring me closer to my vision of a rich and fulfilling life? If the answer is yes, go ahead. If not, it is time to reconsider. By consciously balancing frugality with necessary expenses, you can build not just wealth but a legacy of wisdom, financial stability, and happiness. Furthermore, isn’t that what we all truly desire? Expanding the Balance Between Frugality and Expenses: Practical Life Examples In our pursuit of a financially secure and happy life, we often face decisions that challenge our understanding of what is necessary and what is not. This section expands on practical examples illustrating how balancing frugality with expenses can be a powerful strategy for achieving long-term financial freedom and fulfilment. Buying a home is often considered a fundamental financial goal for many Indians, symbolising stability, security, and success. However, is saving for a home an act of frugality, an expense, or both? The answer lies in understanding how much one can afford and setting realistic benchmarks. Expense or Frugality? Let us consider a young married couple in their early 30s. They have a combined monthly income of `2,00,000 and are eager to buy their dream home. However, they have to decide whether to go for a property worth `1 crore in a prime location or opt for a smaller house in the suburbs worth `60 lakh. This decision involves weighing the emotional value of owning a “dream home” against the practical affordability aspect. If they decide to go for the ` one crore house, they might stretch their budget thin, leaving little room for savings or investments. This could impact their financial freedom in the long run, as a hefty mortgage would tie them down and have less flexibility to invest in other areas like children’s education, retirement, or even vacations. On the other hand, choosing the `60 lakh house in a reasonably good neighbourhood could be seen as an act of frugality. This choice allows them to maintain a healthy balance between enjoying the benefits of homeownership while still having enough disposable income for savings, investments, and lifestyle choices. Setting a realistic benchmark—such as allocating no more than 30-40% of their monthly income to EMIs—can be a practical guideline. In my own journey, I have seen several clients make these decisions. For instance, a senior executive and his wife were contemplating buying a luxury apartment. After careful discussion, they opted for a more modest home, allowing them to continue their passion for travel without financial strain. The result? A happier and richer life, both financially and experientially. Many praised specific actors. One X user called Erivo's version of Elphaba "Also the PIPES!!!!" they added, referencing Erivo's powerhouse vocals. Another complimented Ariana Grande's comedic timing as Glinda and her range in "No One Mourns The Wicked," the opening track that sees Glinda publicly celebrate the death of the Wicked Witch of the West, who viewers later learn was her closest friend. Jonathan Bailey, who plays Fiyero in the film, received no shortage of praise for his effusive chemistry on screen and "exquisite management of his charisma," as "The funniest non-spoilery thing about #Wicked is that it’s not just the girls who are swooning for Fiyero. EVERYONE at Shiz is into him, and you never question it because it feels 100% realistic," another "Jonathan Bailey needs to open a school of chemistry because more men need what he has. genuinely why did he have chemistry with every single person in wicked. what is he doing. how is this possible. someone stop him (don’t)," Many on social media shouted out specific musical moments, including the climactic finale of "Defying Gravity" and the rousing and emotional "Dancing Through Life" scene at the Ozdust Ballroom. But after seeing the film, some viewers said those reservations were no longer an issue. "I was the biggest skeptic of splitting Wicked into two films but it was FULLY WORTH IT. Easily one of, if not the best movie musicals of the 21st century. I need part 2, and I need a full theme park land," "That was the shortest 2 hours and 40 minutes of my life. I was spellbound," One X user said seeing the film made them understand , which sparked in the weeks leading up to the film's release Nov. 22. The overwhelming theme? Tears. Lots and lots of tears. "Here's us before the 'Wicked' movie," at the Los Angeles premiere Nov. 9. The next clip, which is noted "After:," shows Olsen sobbing. ("Same," who originated the role of Glinda in the Broadway musical, notably commented.) “Not a single dry eye in theater,” reads the text on one TikTok that was re with the message, “absolutely EVERYONE cries during wicked. no matter the age nor the gender.” Still, some say they're planning to go through the emotional experience all over again. "saw #wicked tonight and already have plans to see it 3 more times," , accompanied by a viral GIF of Grande crying in an interview. (Universal Pictures and TODAY.com share a parent company, Comcast.) Matt Lively from Jacksonville, Florida explained that scanning a QR code to pay for parking may put you at risk of being scammed. He therefore recommended sticking to the old-fashioned method of inputting coins or your card into a parking meter. Even if QR codes may seem like a convenient, cash and card-free option, scammers have begun sticking fake codes over the top of real ones, Matt told Action News Jax. Motorists are then presented with a list of steps which, if followed, navigate them onto fake payment sites. This not only give crooks the ability to take money from your account - it also gives them access to your identity information, which can be exploited in a multitude of ways by fraudsters. "We’re getting scammed on everything. Text messages, phone calls, QR codes... everything’s a scam." This was seconded by James Lee, from the Identity Theft Resource Center, who agreed it was a growing trend. He added that although fake QR codes are not a new scam, their implementation at parking meters is relatively new. Most read in Motors Drivers who are concerned about the legitimacy of a QR code are advised to check carefully for layers underneath. When navigated to a payment site, customers should also be on high alert for any red flags. The warning comes after drivers were also advised to check their dashboard lights ahead of temperatures plummeting this winter. Failure to do this could result in costly tire repairs. According to major tire manufacturers such as Goodyear and Firestone, tire pressures can drop by as much as 1 to 2 psi, or pounds per square inch, for every 10 degrees Fahrenheit change in temperature. Underinflated tires can be particularly dangerous at this time of year, as they reduce traction, handling, durability, fuel efficiency, and increase braking time, while overinflated tires can lead to poor handling and even blowouts. Motorists were also informed of a new speeding rule coming into effect on January 6 which will increase the chances of getting a ticket. A host of new speed cameras are set to be installed across Des Moines, Iowa , which could catch unknowing drivers unawares. Sgt. Paul Parizek of the Des Moines Police said: "We just don't have the resources to put a cop on every corner. "We don't have the resources to stick a cop in front of every park or every school.
